PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

MISSION AND SERVICE
We are a small church with a big heart for serving our neighbors.
We care for those on our doorstep with love and dignity.
We meet the needs of our neighbors by helping in
a variety of ways including:
-
Volunteering with many of our local partnering agencies
-
Donating personal items, food, funds and our time in conjunction with our local partnering agencies
-
Participating and Supporting the Special Offerings of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and work of the Presbyterian Church (USA) Mission Agency
-
Coordinating and fulfilling Special Projects including:
-
Providing Chrome Books to unhoused graduating High School Seniors affiliated with the McKinney- Vento Homeless Program through the Thompson School District
-
Winter hats and Holiday gift card drive for the unhoused graduating High School Seniors
-
Giving seasonal gift baskets to the Lago Vista school children
-
Participating and helping to coordinate the Annual Crop Walk
-
But we know that we can do MORE when we work together.
These are some of the organizations we partner with in mission:
Working with other faith communities around the state and in our community to advocate for policies and legislation that will promote our faith values. Currently, we are working with other local churches on affordable housing solutions and immigration concerns.
A 2019 mission trip established our relationship with this Christian organization serving the needs of our brothers and sisters in the Zona Maya region of the Yucatan.
The Presbyterian Office of Public Witness (OPW) is the public policy information and advocacy office of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Its task is to advocate, and help the church to advocate, the social witness perspectives and policies of the General Assembly. The church has a long history of applying these biblically and theologically based insights to issues that affect the public. If you would like to participate with other Presbyterians in this advocacy work, you can sign up to receive Action Alerts by clicking here.
CROP Hunger Walks are community-based walk fundraising events held in cities and towns across the United States, created to support the global mission of Church World Service, a faith-based organization transforming communities around the globe through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster. After a CROP Hunger Walk ends, 25% of the funds raised is returned to the host community to support local hunger fighting efforts.
This organization started in the basement of our church building and outgrew our space. We still serve meals every month to those in our community in need of nourishment and relationship.
We receive 4 special offerings each year that fund ministries of the larger church and contribute to our local mission efforts.
We give from our annual budget to support the larger mission efforts of our denomination.
McKinney-Vento Homeless Program through the Thompson School District
The Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program, which is part of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, ensures that eligible children have rights which include receiving a free appropriate public education. We support this program, which is available through the Thompson School District, though our 2x year donation of laptop computer to the unhoused graduating seniors.
